Is buffet lunch better than lunch? Hi guys! I am back to fulfil my promise in my last post. Do you remember my last post about buffet lunch? I could not finish sharing my experience and I had promised to finish it in my next post. So here it goes. But before I go on sharing let me introduce myself for those who are new readers. I am James originally from Bangalore but now I belong to the whole nation due to my frequent visits in different cities right from Thiruvanantpuram to Jammu and from Ahmedabad to Delhi and Mumbai. I am an independent connoisseur and I love travelling and eating and sharing my experience in blogs and journals. Let me directly come to my experience of buffet lunch. Well, to start with I would like to comment that Indian buffet culture needs to grow a lot more and become more professional. It is not that the shortcomings are always on organiser’s side or in management of restaurant but many a time I have personally felt that people’s uncultured habit adds to the menace of buffet lunch. I have felt a tendency in most of us that buffet means unlimited quantity of food which is not the right kind of attitude. Rather we should be more cautious and learn some basic etiquette. Like I said before, today buffet has turned synonymous to unlimited food which is not the true position. We take it for granted that we can waste as much food as we want. We take huge portion of food in our dishes and end up wasting most of it which could have been surely saved. My second negative mark is upon the eating habit during buffet lunch. I feel we always want to try all the dishes whether we like it or not. Sure they all look delightful, but we surely need to know how much of each is best to fulfil our appetite. We think that it is our vested right to take all dishes and then waste which is surely not good for a starving nation like India where thousands of children sleep without having a single bread. My third negative remarks would again be on eating habit. I visited many buffet lunch restaurants and realised that most people fill their stomach with starters itself and by the time we reach onto the main course we lose our appetite. But does that stop us from going ahead with the rest of the courses? No!! We enjoy our right of unlimited food and waste food again. We must all understand that the concept of buffet lunch was started to give us mental satisfaction so that we need not worry all the time for our purse and we can enjoy our food. Sadly this concept is seldom understood and is being misused too much. So next time you happen to have a buffet, make sure you are clear about certain things. 1. Buffet is to satisfy your hunger and not to ensure you eat a lil more than what you paid for. 2. Easy with the serving. You will always get a chance to take a second serving. 3. Go ahead!! Try out every dish on the buffet. Just make sure you don’t fill your stomach with the starters itself. 4. Never ever mix the spoons and ladles. Think about the vegetarian friends around. 5. Do not clutter your dish and do not hesitate to take a new plate if you find your plate too messy to hold your next course. 6th and the last but very important point- Eat food to enjoy the taste and the experience and not as if there is no tomorrow. for more details check
