7 secrets to find seeds of opportunity for next year
So, how will you find the seeds of opportunity for 2009 and beyond?

First, in order to establish a strong foundation to move forward successfully, it is crucial to focus on what positive and wonderful things you already take for granted in your life. These areas include (but certainly are not limited to) your family and home and free time, your opportunity to develop a successful career, your friendships and partnerships you have developed over the years, and also the prospect of enjoying many good years to come, etc.

Second, starting a new year is good for many reasons. It gives us an opportunity to see the world with fresh eyes and imagine new beginnings. It also lets us reflect on all the good things that we have in our lives and project the good things that are yet to come. A positive attitude is key for the New Year, especially this year when it would be all too easy to dwell on our uncertain economy and our individual economic woes.

Now is the time to get back to the fundamentals of your business. Seven secrets to find seeds of opportunity for next year are to practice the following:

1. Do a self fiscal review of your business
2. Understand your cash-flow;
3. Know the real cost of your products and/or your services;
4. Learn who your loyal customers are;
5. Be innovative and look for ways to grow your business and increase your profits.
6. Do not take your eye off the ball; pay close attention to your business.
7. Find the Golden opportunity hidden in this downturn.

Bonus Tip: In addition to being one of those key pieces of information that you save for the moment a bluebird opportunity arises or a rainy day downpour occurs, why not pull this list out every six months to see where you can better manage your company. Feel free to add the notes or comments you want and change any words to make it your own. After all you gain when you internalize it and reap the benefits.

Let me close this message to you with a comforting thought. My philosophy is that we have gone through these downturns before and the sun WILL shine again, and someone will find those special opportunities, so why not you? Also, we are in a transformative type recession and both the greed and fear cycles will eventually diminish as they have in the past.

Thanks for sharing 2008 with me, and I trust my message has left you with the focus to come out on top in 2009 and beyond!
